This paper is about the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict and...

Since the establishment of Israel in 1948, there has been constant fighting between Israelis and Arabs. The Israelis have the right to live peacefully in Israel, but there is a conflict because the Palestinians feel that Israel is their land. During recent years the conflict in the Middle East had been exploded on to our television screens. Day after day images of violence and suffering have dominated the news. Scenes of heavily armed Israeli soldiers facing young Palestinian children hurling stones with slingshots- like Goliath facing David- have evoked dismay and confusion. The vehemence of the Palestinian reaction is a result of years of pent-up anger and frustration. The Israeli response has been swift and determined: Palestinian towns†¦show more content†¦This was a strategic link in the chain of events that brought about the proclamation of the State of Israel in May of 1948. Still, the Jews had to wage an impassioned struggle against the invasion by the neighboring Ar ab states before they could finally secure the life of their new state (Israel 2). On May 14, 1948, on the day in which the British Mandate over a Palestine expired, the Jewish peoples council gathered at the Tel Aviv museum and approved the following proclamation, declaring the establishment of the State of Israel. The new state was recognized that night by the United States and three days later by the USSR (Declaration 1). My First Time Being Angry At God - 1597 Words

My cousin Katie also had a big impact on my faith throughout high school. She was like a mentor to me. I knew if I ever had a question, faith-related or not, I could go to her. Her relationship with her husband is so inspiring to me because they often pray together and attend Church together. God is truly at the center of their marriage. My freshman year of college, Katie found out that she was pregnant. Everyone was so excited for her, including myself. A few months later, Kate found out that her baby would be born with Trisomy 18. Most babies with this genetic disease do not make it to full term. On December 24th, 2013 Brantley was born. He was born a month early and immediately rushed to the NICU, where he would spend his whole life. Brantley was so perfect. Everyone would sit next to him and read to him. I remember this being the first time being angry at God. At first I didn’t understand why this perfect baby only got two days on this Earth when he deserved so much more. I prayed endlessly and found peace. I came to the realization that Brantley will never know suffering and that he can now spend his entire life with God. My cousin and her husband began a blog called Brantley Strong. My cousin included this quote which is the epitome of how my family and I have shaped our faith. I believe that everything that happens in our lives, however awful, is an oppurtunity to bring Glory to Jesus. We all wished it would have been a different way. Lady Macbeth free essay sample

Macbeth is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare and tells the story of the seemingly brave warrior, Macbeth. However, due a prophecy created by the witches, Macbeth becomes over-ambitious and commits regicide. The rest of the story demonstrates how the crimes he committed led to his inevitable downfall. Rupert Goold directed a film adaptation of Macbeth starring Patrick Steward and Kate Fleetwood. The film adaptation used uniforms comparable to Soviet Union. However, the name of all characters and the place names are kept the same as in the play. The film adaptation of Macbeth is very dramatic, with lots of tension, suspense and gore to keep the audience attentive. One of the main characters in the play is Lady Macbeth, wife to Macbeth. She is an extremely ambitious woman who is infatuated with power and glory. In the play she is shown as a powerful and dominating character. This is also the case in the film adaptation, where is also presented as a sexual temptress. Unfortunately Macbeth is unable to resist his ambition and before he commits regicide he says, Stars, hide your fire, let not light see my black and deep desires. This soliloquy shows Macbeths internal conflict between his ambition and his morality as he is ashamed of what he is about to do, he does not wish heaven to see the stirring evil within him. The soliloquies demonstrate that Macbeths uncontrolled ambition eventually overwhelms him and that he loses the battle between good and evil. Shakespeare also uses the technique of contrasting characters to highlight the struggle between good and evil. During the first half of the play Shakespeare reveals the fact that Macbeth is evil by contrasting him with his close friend, Banquo. They are both strong leaders and victorious generals and both witness the witches prophesies; however their reactions to these prophecies contrast dramatically: Banquo is able to resist his ambition for his decedents to be kings; Macbeth is not able to resist his desire to become king. This reveals that the world is full of temptations and that man constantly struggles to resist evil. We are always only one decision away from succumbing to sin. Macduff is another character that contrasts vividly with Macbeth. This is especially notable in the way they treat each others ife. When Macduff discovers the death of King Duncan he tries to spare the harshness of his discovery from Lady Macbeth, saying O gentle Lady, Tis not for you to hear what I can speak and shows his concern for Lady Macbeth when she faints Look to the lady. However Macbeths treatment of Lady Macduff reveals the depths of degradation to which his character has fallen. This is shown when Macbeth slaughters Lady Macduff and her children during the absence of Macduff. Macbeth commands the murderers to Give the edge o the sword/ His wife, his babes, and all nfortunate souls/ That trace him in his line. His action demonstrates how far his character deteriorates into evil as he loses the sense of conscience and humanity, near the end of the play. Lastly the imagery in the dialogue reinforces the idea of evil overwhelming good as a result of Macbeths ambition to be king. One of the most effective images Shakespeare uses is blood imagery, which can be seen throughout the whole play and begins at the opening battle between the scouts and the Norwegian invaders. The wounded captains harrowing description of Macbeths

Death Penalty Should Be Abolished essays

Death Penalty Should Be Abolished essays Unlike popular belief, the death penalty does not act as a deterrent to criminals. As stated by Alfred Blumstein, "Expert after expert and study after study has shown the lack of correlation between the treat of the death penalty and the occurrence of violent crimes." (Blumstein 68) Isaac Ehrlich's study on the limiting effects of capital punishment in America reveals this to the public. The study spans twenty-five years, from 1957 till 1982, and shows that in the first year the study was conducted, there were 8060 murders and 6 executions. However, in the last year of the study there were 22,520 murders committed and only 1 execution performed. (Blumstein 54) This clearly shows that many violent criminals are not afraid of the capital punishment. Abolitionists believe the offenders should be required to compensate the victim's family with the offender's own income from employment or community service. There is no doubt that someone can do more alive than dead. By working, the criminal inadvert-ently "pays back" society and also their victim and/or victim's family. There is no reason for the criminal to receive any compensation for the work they do, because money is of no jail time. This could be considered a form of slavery to some, but it is no different from the days of being sent to the "yard" to break stone. One of the most well-known examples of the criminal contributing to the betterment of society is the case Leopld and Loeb. They were nineteen years old when they committed "The Crime of the Century." In 1924, they kidnapped and murdered a fourteen-year-old boy just to see how it would feel to kill someone. They were both spared the death penalty and sentenced to life imprisonment. (Bedau 78) Together their accomplishments included working in hospitals, teaching the illiterate how to read, creating a correspondence school, writing a grammar book, and making significant developments in the World War II Mala...

The Coca-Cola Company Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Coca-Cola Company - Research Paper Example We will be looking at several types of financial ratios available in assessing the financial position of The Coca-Cola Company: Liquidity Ratios, Asset Management Ratios, Profitability Ratios and Gearing Ratios. The quantitative findings in this segment can be found in the Appendix section of this report. The results show that The Coca-Cola Company has a good Liquidity Ratio. The company’s Current Ratio is 1.12 (0.95 in Q1 2008) and its Quick Ratio is 0.94 (0.80 in Q1 2008). This means that The Coca-Cola Company is still able to generate enough cash to settle its short-term liabilities. There has been a slight improvement in its Liquidity Ratio compared with the previous quarter. As a guide, a current ratio of 2 is ideal. However, in the company’s case, 46% of its Current Assets (42% in Q1 2008) are made up of cash and cash equivalents. At a glance, the company’s assets are being managed efficiently. Its Inventory Turnover is 1.13 (1.07 in Q1 2008), which shows t hat company is trading better. Its inventories declined by 6% in the first quarter of 2009 whereas its sales increased by 3% in the same quarter of 2008. Nevertheless, the company should take note that over increasing its inventories may adversely affect its business performance. This is because costs associated with holding inventories for too long can be very expensive. As such, managing its inventories well is recommended. There is a slight improvement in the Average Collection Days of 39 (43 Days in Q1 2008). Although the company is able to meet its short-term liabilities; it should still make an effort to improve the collection of its debts. The credit term given to its customers is not stated; however, as a guideline, 30 days is recommended. In this case, the company’s customers are enjoying slightly more than the normal credit terms and this should be monitored.
